PERSONALITY,
Adalyn, despite appearing otherwise, is a damaged little girl and has been from the day her mother and younger sibling died. She’s closed off, she’s cold, she’s unapproachable and worse, she’s withdrawn. She doesn’t really enjoy the company of other people, but fakes a smile for the customers who come into her father’s store. She’s a double edged blade, so to speak, because while she’s not the friendliest, she desperately wants someone who can understand how she’s feeling. She’s a smart girl, she’s mature and independent. Her father believes that he’s been looking after her since her mother died, but really, she took on more responsibilities than he intended for her to have. Now, she’s secretive and, despite wanting friends, doesn’t really reach out to anyone. Adalyn has a bit of a negative energy about her and that’s because she’s rather pessimistic. She calls herself a realist. She likes rational and logical things.
HISTORY,
Adalyn was not planned, to say the least. Her mother was sixteen when she was born and had nothing but the clothes on her back when she came into the world. Her mother had been kicked out of the house when she found out she was pregnant because her grandparents were ashamed of her. Her mother traveled with another young woman, making it to Galway, where she met the young woman’s grandmother. The girl moved in and shortly after, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Katie, Adalyn’s mother, did everything she could to make sure Adalyn knew that she was loved and she succeeded. But as Adalyn advanced, as she became a toddler, she asked about a daddy, she asked where her daddy was, but Katie didn’t know. Not long after her daughter turned three, however, Katie made it her mission to find Aidan, her father, just so that her baby girl could meet her father.
Contacting Adalyn’s uncle, Katie found out that Aidan was studying in England and she took her daughter there. And when Adalyn met her father, although she was very young, she felt like she fell in love. He was her daddy, no one else’s, hers. Aidan told her the story of their first meeting over and over when she was growing up, because she liked hearing it. He told her that when she told him her name, for the first time, her sweet little voice melted his heart and he felt the deepest love for her. His baby. His little dil. He told her, from that moment on, the only person he could imagine loving as much as he loved her was either her sibling or her child.
When she was about eight, after her parents had gotten back together and they moved back to where her father was from, Adalyn heard her parents talking about a baby. Another baby. She wasn’t too sure she wanted to share her parents, but before she knew it, her mother was expecting. As the pregnancy went on, Adalyn got excited. Aidan told her how happy he was when he became an older brother and he was sure she’d be a great older sister. However, Katie got sick and had to go to the hospital. It was the last time Adalyn saw her mother. When she got a little older, Aidan explained to her what had happened. There had been a complication with the baby, which had resulted in Katie going into very early labor, which resulted in massive blood loss.
The pair were destroyed when Katie died and, on top of that, the baby as well. Adalyn had already thought of names for the baby, because she had begged to be allowed to help name him or her. Aidan’s decision, however, to leave Ireland was one that Adalyn was against. She wanted to be near her grandparents, her papa especially, but Aidan made the decision without thinking about what his daughter wanted.
Things were rough, getting the shop up and running, especially since Aidan had to figure out how he was going to send his daughter to school, too. But, in the end, it all worked out. Adalyn took on a few roles that her mother once filled, such as cooking and waking her father up in the morning. She’s still deeply, deeply damaged from the loss of her mother and sibling, as well as knowing her maternal grandparents rejected her. She constantly wonders if they’d be proud of her now, wondered if they’d think she was smart or grownup and be proud of how this was their granddaughter.
She’s in high school now, however, at the top of her class, but not in first place. She works too much to be able to be in first place. She works in the shop, alongside her father and the music boy, Nate, and does what she can to get by. She’s a pretty little thing, with raven hair and the deepest blue eyes, so she attracts a bit of attention. Which is good for sales, but bad for her father. And, much to Aidan’s dismay, Adalyn has little bit of a crush...
